Manchester City could lose their Premier league title of 2014 if they are deemed to have breached the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, as per reports. City have been banned from participating in any UEFA competitions for the next two years, (UEFA Champions league and Europa league) due to serious breaches of UEFA club licensing and Financial Fair Play FFP rules.

Meanwhile, the Citizens have appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS. but should they fail in their appeal, the Premier League will open an investigation into their past transactions and due punishment will be handed out.

The Football Association has been very strict with financial related issues, Bury Fc were expelled from league one at the beginning of the season. The Shakers finished the 2018–19 season as runners-up in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system, and were promoted to EFL League One for the 2019–20 season. The team were unable to begin the season because of the club’s long-standing financial issues and, on 27 August 2019, Bury were expelled from the English Football League (EFL).

Manchester City are not expected to be kicked out of the league. According to a report from Daily mail, they might suffer points deduction, putting their 2014 title in danger. In the 2013/2014 season, City won the league in one of the closest title races in recent years, finishing on 86 points- just four ahead of Liverpool.

But according to UEFA, the period between 2012-2016 was when City overstated their sponsorship income, meaning that in theory the 2014 title win could be stripped and handed to Liverpool retrospectively.

It would be recalled that Juventus were stripped off their 2005 and 2006 Serie A titles after they were found guilty of illegal telephone interceptions involving referees.
